Hurricane Katrina

Once again, disaster befalls us. I’m simply stunned at the destruction wrought by Hurricane Katrina. My best wishes and prayers go out to the people caught up in that epic battle between man and nature, especially those trapped in the devastated areas of Louisiana and Mississippi.

I’d just like to do my small part in reminding everyone to donate to relief efforts underway to help those in need during this time of crisis. Please give what you can to the relief organization of your choice.

No support the Salvation Army. The Red Cross are crooks!

Read this e-mail I got recently...
I support The Salvation Army every chance I get. In every disaster that occurs, The Salvation Army is there -- often first --- and frequently long before the Red Cross. They provide food and shelter and clothing-- they charge for nothing-- and they don't blow their own horn constantly. They just work, help, provide, care for, and do -- unselfishly. They were first on the scene up in Humboldt County when we had those three earthquakes ( 6.9, 6.7 and 7.1) in 24 hours in 1993. They provided hundreds of thousands of meals in New York City to the rescue workers, victims and families in the aftermath of 9/11. Cots, blankets, clothing.

The Red Cross plays the politics-- they charge our servicemen/women for those donuts and coffee, you know. They get tons of money through United Way and government contracts-- if a serviceman/woman needs to go home on emergency leave, only the Red Cross can be the validating organization for that. They don't do that for nothing.

And on a personal note-- The Salvation Army provided a Christmas to my family years ago, when my mother was in the mental hospital and my three sisters (17, 15, and 6) and I (21) were barely hanging on. They gave us Christmas dinner, and a Christmas gift for each of us, including a reconditioned kids' bike for my youngest sister. I worked with a woman who was a Salvationist, and she quietly put us on the list. They just showed up and delivered it all to us.

I've never forgotten them --- not on any Christmas since. And other times too. Whenever I feel the need to help out- Oklahoma, 9/11, the tsunami, and now lovely New Orleans, and the other Gulf cities so hard hit, The Salvation Army is where I donate.

Booksammillion has a listing on their site where you can donate to them---- or go the The Salvation Army directly. See below.
